The Death Penalty
I have a unique view of this subject that is had to explain. In the past I have had no objection to the concept of the death penalty. In fact, three years ago, maybe less, I would have supported the death penalty. Take the recent execution of Robert Glenn Coe. For this is an individual, three years ago, I would have pull the switch personally. So, you may ask, What changed? Three simple areas changed my mind on the death penalty: The death penalty, as it stands now, is racist; It's cost are higher than supporting a life in prison sentence; and the Death Penalty is not a deterrent.
I Support the Death Penalty because it is a deterrent to other murders.
Is it? According to crime rate reports from the FBI, the states that have the death penalty have HIGHER murder rates than states that do not have the death penalty.
What, How can that be?!
This statement assumes that people who murder others stop and consider the consequences. In fact, most are sociopaths or have psychological disorders that contributed to the behavior. In the case where this does not apply, these people are reacting out of passion or other strong emotional states. In short, to stop and consider the consequences, one has to be able to make a logical decision. These are not clear minded individuals. The idea that the Death Penalty is a deterrent simply does not hold water in my book.
